Program Description

The Master in Spatial Planning and Urbanism (MOTU) aims to provide advanced training in critical reflection and in the practice of planning and management of the territory, responding to an effective and potential demand on the part of all agents in the domain of urbanism and planning of the territory. MOTU students are empowered to actively intervene, in a qualified and innovative way, in the formulation of strategies and concrete solutions to the problems that arise in the planning, construction, requalification and management of urban and metropolitan spaces.

History

The course results from the articulation of efforts between three schools of the University of Lisbon - Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT), Faculty of Architecture (FA) and Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) -, which are characterized by a long tradition and experience in teaching and innovation in this shared field of knowledge. All of these institutions are members of AESOP (Association of European Schools of Planning), the most important European association of planning schools, which gives the course another important factor of international recognition.
